A new location has been revealed as a destination for the Taste Cumbria food festival.
The county’s biggest and best gastronomic event will be heading to Kirkby Lonsdale from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 April. This will be a fantastic new addition to the Taste Cumbria calendar of festivals, which already take place in Cockermouth and Ulverston, bringing many thousands of visitors to the towns every year.
Taste Cumbria is a showcase for all that is great about food and drink in Cumbria and the line-up for the Kirkby Lonsdale festival will be no exception.
More than 40 producers will be selling their wares, while some of the county’s best chefs will be demonstrating their talents, with special areas set aside for the youngest visitors to get involved. Plans are also being made to get local businesses involved to offer tastings, special offers and more fun activities to everyone who comes to town.
The first two sponsors for the Kirkby Lonsdale festival have also been announced. They are Hipping Hall, the country house hotel and restaurant at nearby Cowan Bridge, and Mill House Cottages, which offers luxurious self catering accommodation. The Taste Cumbria festivals are organised by Carlisle-based CN Events in association with Cumbria Life magazine.
Sarah Ross, Kirkby Lonsdale’s tourism and town manager, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Taste Cumbria team for the first time to Kirkby Lonsdale. We are building on the amazing success of our 2016 Christmas Market and capitalising on all the very positive national and regional coverage our town has received in recent months. Being finalists in the Great British High Street competition really boosted our appeal to many who had not visited the Lune Valley previously and we hope to tempt them back again this Easter!”
Andrew Wildsmith is the owner of Hipping Hall. He added: “We are exceptionally pleased to be supporting such a high profile event in Kirkby Lonsdale, one that will rightly recognise the truly amazing produce available in this unique corner of the North of England. It is an event that we hope will grow from strength to strength and put the area firmly on the foodie map.’’
Julie Bolton runs Millhouse Cottages with her husband Stephen. She said: “We are very proud that we offer a wonderful holiday experience to our guests and that we are able to encourage more visitors to our beautiful town.
“Our clients enjoy shopping in the region and the majority eat out locally most days. A high profile event with premium offers is exactly what appeals to these visitors. To be able to promote our region as a foodie destination would add significant value to the area and wholeheartedly support this initiative."
